This is a renowned location for leopards and on the twice-daily safaris, sightings are almost guaranteed. This is really a private island boutique resort but it just had to make this list as it’s rather too fabulous to ignore! 20 minutes off the port of Mersing you come across the tropical, paradise island of Pulau Tengah which Batu Batu’s brand new 22 luxury villas call home. Although this is a desert island, the infinity pool, spa, on-site PADI diving school, restaurant and cocktail bar remind you that this is also a luxury resort – a lovely combination of escapism in comfort.
