Where in Europe should you travel to in 2017? What are the best destinations, both in the city and in the country? Here is our pick of the best destinations in Europe for 2017.
From the elegant Champs Elysées and romantic walks along the Seine in Paris, to the glorious sunshine of the Cote D’Azur, France is our number one pick for 2017. Take advantage of lower hotel rates across Paris and stay in one of the Grande Dames. Or, try one of our favorite boutique hotels, Les Bains, in the Marais neighborhood. Once a private bathhouse, and a nightclub where Jagger and Bowie danced the nights away, Les Bains is a bold take on Parisian design and hospitality and is ideally located in an artsy neighborhood perfect for exploring.
For a magnificent experience in the French countryside, surrounded by lavender fields, vineyards, and olive groves, stay at Domaine des Andéols in the heart of Provence. The owners have transformed a collection of stone farm buildings into beautiful villas filled with art.
On the Cote D’Azur, if your budget will stretch, stay at the Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, for sunset beers on the pinnacle of the Cap Ferrat peninsula, or Hotel Hermitagein Monte Carlo with views across Monaco Harbor.
London remains one of everyone’s favorite cities in the world. The food is fantastic, the shopping magnificent – We love wandering around Harrods and their toy department is the best toy shop in London. Visit the Queen in Buckingham Palace, tour of the galleries, or simply take a stroll around the many parks right in the center. Hotels like theIntercontinental and the Four Seasons London Park Lane border Regents Park which meanders around numerous lakes with waterside cafes, perfect for grabbing a coffee, and Green Park which sits between Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar square. There is something magical about being in the midst of woodland with the city skyline poking over the trees.
Beyond London, the Cotswolds are about as chocolate box English as you will find. Drive through the rolling hills and stay in an elegant country house or in an old world country pub and enjoy long walks in the country. One of our favorites is Calcot, with 35 beautiful bedrooms, a luxurious spa, and two restaurants; it’s ideal for families or romantic getaways.
Switzerland remains on our list of favorite European countries to visit as it has so many uber luxury hotels. From it’s lakeside cities of Zurich and Geneva, to the many rural and mountain retreats, you will be spoiled for choice when choosing where to lay your head. For something a bit different why not try the over water bungalows of Hôtel Palafitte. For skiing it has to be Gstaad and if you love your music you must try the jazz festival of Lausanne, a short train ride from Geneva.
Venice is renowned for it’s beauty, architecture, and art. The lagoon and a part of the city are listed as a World Heritage Site. For the luxury traveller, life doesn’t get better than the legendary Cipriani in Venice. You will never get over the novelty of swimming outdoors as a boat floats past, or the romance of catching a water taxi from the airport and speeding across the water to your hotel. The Aman Venice is another magnificent choice with incredible staff and service and views out onto the Grand Canal from the most intricate and beautiful building. George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin held their wedding there in 2014.
Of course the joy of Italy is not restricted to Venice. The Amalfi coast should be on your bucket list of places to visit. With cliffs towering above azur blue waters, charming villages full of designer shops, high-end hotels and visitors dressed as beautifully as the views, Capri, Positano and Sorrento are all wonderful places to lay your head. Check into the luxurious JK Place Caprior the Capri Palaceon the island of Capri.
With world-class museums, quirky festivals, theater, live music, laid-back bars and delightful restaurants, there's never a shortage of things to do in the Netherlands. And with so many new hotels popping up, Amsterdam is on the list of must visit places in Europe. Favorite hotels include Sir Albert Amsterdam with its stone washed flooring softened by Persian rugs, super sleek but chic furnishing and detailed craftsmanship. Or, step into your own unique and private paradise in a genuine historic estate at the Private Mansions. If you prefer something modern, the 5 star Hyatt Andazalong Princes Canal is also a good choice.
